But, itīs a New Year and we should grasp it as a positive new start and help ourselves get through the down turn. We need to be honest with ourselves and face up to our challenges with the determination to succeed. Admitting if weīve got a problem is the first step to solving it.
We are told that the number of repossessions is continuing to rise. If you think you may be facing difficulty in keeping up with your mortgage repayments, address it now before it gets out of control. You may need to restructure the type of mortgage you have to suit any changes in circumstance.

According to the Office for National Statistics, the national retirement age is continuing to rise and will do so indefinitely with the governmentīs plan to increase it from 65 to 68 over the next 40 years. Like mortgages, now may well be a good time to reassess your pension plans to ensure your retirement will not be adversely affected.
Where your business is concerned, take advantage of the current situation. Streamline and simplify your business model to eliminate duplication and unnecessary spending. Consider renegotiating contracts and benefits schemes, and get rid of non-profit making services.
Donīt just take stock of your own business, assess and understand what is happening to the businesses of your clients and suppliers, and be aware of your whole market place. By understanding what they are going to be looking for you can be there to provide it.
Most importantly, be different. But donīt just be different - be outstanding. What have you got that your competitors have not? What makes you unique and why does that add value to your business? When you know the answer, tell people. Itīs one thing knowing yourself how good you are but your potential new customers donīt know anything about your outstanding qualities. Blow your own trumpet; nobody else will.
