Christmas will be upon us very shortly and in the rush to deal with all the preparations and X Mas shopping it can be easy to forget that the personal self assessment tax deadline is just around the corner.

The last day for filing your return and payment of the tax for 2006/2007 is 31st January 2008.

So as part of your X Mas preparations take some time out to collect together your tax papers. These might include your form P60, if employed, or your accounts information, if you have a business. Then, you need to find the interest received on any bank or building society accounts. Perhaps you have a pension so your payments and the details of the pension provider will be needed. Have you any shares? If so, see if you can find the dividend vouchers for any dividends received. So the list goes on!

However, if you start now at least you will not be worrying so much over Christmas.
