Mallard Business Solutions was formed in July 2001 when John Fletcher, a local chartered accountant with over 20 years experience, decided to set up a boutique service to the local business community.
As well as the usual compliance activities offered by accountancy practices, it was felt that the local businessperson wanted more.
By getting close to the small business client and carrying out a range of bookkeeping functions, payroll, and VAT and Income tax compliance work, the firm could also be proactive in assisting with business growth, strategy, marketing and value creation.
John has been advising clients in these areas for the last 10 years of his career, mainly out of larger accounting practices. With their high overheads, this often made the service out of reach of the smaller business. By running a slimmed down practice, without the overheads of a large staff, expensive rents and the insurance and other compliance costs associated with auditing, Mallard Business Solutions are able to offer a more cost effective and tailored service to meet the needs of the smaller local business.
Cost effective means a price that is bearable by the client, that represents value for money, and is predictable.
Fees can be arranged either as a flat fee per month, or a monthly charge dependant on usage.
A monthly fee will depend on the level of attention required, the type of advice sought and the service required.
Currently fees being charged range from£100 to £2,000 per month.
One of the first things to get right is regular business information. Although we can carry this out for the client, a preferred option is to set the client up with a user friendly system, such as QuickBooks, and encourage the client to to use thia as a tool to guide the business forward. We can then review this, and have regular meetings to review the progress of the business.
